FilmPass is launching its moviepass app for the Indian market on Thursday, and it will let users stream and rent movies for a low monthly fee.
The app is priced at Rs. 7.99 per month and offers an array of titles, from blockbusters to comedy specials to niche hits.
“The new CinemaPass app will be available on all major platforms including Apple TV, Android, Windows, Roku, Xbox, Apple TV/Xbox, Amazon Fire TV, and Roku 3/4 players,” the company said.
MoviePass says it is available in Hindi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Punjabi, Bengali, Kutch, and Marathi.
Movie Pass users will also be able to watch movies on their phones.
The free CinemaPass subscription comes with access to an unlimited library of movies and TV series.
Moviepass said it has received more than 5.6 billion active users worldwide, including over 4.3 billion in India.
“This is a significant milestone for our movie service and we are confident that the new app will become a popular platform for Indian consumers,” MoviePass chief executive officer Ajay Jain said in a statement.
Movie pass has been in operation since 2015, but its service is not available in the country, and the app has yet to roll out to other markets.
The service was launched by MoviePass to compete with other online video services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Hulu Plus.
The company is currently planning to launch the new service in the next few months.
