The Indian film industry is set to witness a boom in 2018 with the launch of a number of new films and television series, as well as the return of the indies to the mainstream.
The latest batch of films is slated to hit theaters on July 13, 2019.
There are some notable names among them: Anjali Damania’s ‘Hoodlum’, starring Anushka Sharma; Vijay Bhatia’s ‘The Unfinished House’, starring Dabang Jadhav; Rajinikanth’s ‘Lemon’, starring Pranav Jain; Bollywood star Rishi Kapoor’s ‘Tattoo’, starring Aamir Khan; Raghu Rao’s ‘Vikram’ and ‘Bhushan’.
The list of titles from the indias top-earning studios, including Paramount and Viacom, is not short either.
“Indies will continue to see more films released in 2018,” said Praveen Pandey, Chairman and Managing Director of the Indian Film Industry Association.
While there will be some more new films to hit theatres, there will also be more of the traditional genres.
The most notable titles include ‘Lion’, ‘Kashmir’, ‘The Sun’, ‘Dangerous Woman’, ‘Gone Girl’ and many more.
The rise of the mainstream in Indian film is a major reason for the surge in the number of films being released.
“We are now seeing an influx of more mainstream films coming out, including big budget, genre films,” said Pandey.
India has seen an exponential growth in the popularity of independent films in the last few years.
In the first half of 2017, the country witnessed a growth of more than 40 percent in the country’s indie films.
This year, there are expected to be a further increase in the numbers of indies.
Pandey also said that, in 2018, the number and quality of films produced will continue growing.
